Gender Equality Statements

The Gender Equality Statement (GES) is a requirement in Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) and Newton Fund applications. The GES outlines how the project will contribute to reducing gender inequalities as a requirement of the International Development (Gender Equality) Act 2014. Achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment is integral to each of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (with SDG 5 addressing Gender Equality specifically).

Equitable partnerships and ethics

UKRI's Equitable Partnerships Guidance highlights the importance of researchers considering inherent power imbalances when working with in collaboration with partners in resource-poor settings.

The Global code of conduct for research in resource-poor settings establishes key principles to ensure fairness, respect, care and honesty in global research partnerships.

UK Collaborative on Development Research (UKCDR) are a group of government departments and research funders who promote collaboration and joint action in global development research. See Equitable partnerships resource hub.

UKRI & Unicef's Ethical Research in Fragile and Conflict Affected Contexts provides a tool and checklist that can be used in applications to ensure research will give systematic and on-going
consideration to the ethics of research in fragile and conflict-affected contexts.
